The 2023 World Cities Forum, held at the KINTEX Grand Ballroom from October 30 to 31, successfully came to a close.
Under the theme “Urban Innovation for the Future in the Era of Great Transformation,” Goyang Special City hosted discussions over the two-day forum, bringing together domestic and international experts in the fields of economy, space, culture, and transportation. Participants proposed directions for sustainable urban development and discussed practical solutions.
During the opening ceremony on the 30th, congratulatory video messages were delivered by Kim Young-sik, Chairman of the Goyang City Council; Robert Langer, co-founder of Moderna; Lee Sang-joo, Director-General for Urban Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport; Jordi Vaquer, Secretary-General of Metropolis; and Gino Van Begin, Secretary-General of ICLEI.
In his opening remarks, Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan emphasized, “Infectious diseases, climate change, disasters, traffic congestion, and population decline are threatening our lives. Innovative urban policies are essential to drive real change and action.”
He further stated, “The reason we have gathered here is to engage in discourse on solving urban challenges. Let us use this forum to derive strategies for the sustainable growth of our cities.”
