Under the theme of " A Sustainable City for Citizen's Happiness," Goyang City Forum 2021, in which Goyang City organized and participated, took place both online and offline with approximately 1000 participants and both domestic and international experts in the field of urban regeneration, development, environment, and lifelong learning. Together, they shared Goyang City's vision and policy direction.
Experts from International organizations such as the OECD and UNESCO, Economic Diplomacy Counsellor Mark Buttigieg, from the British Embassy Seoul, domestic scholars, and international experts were invited as main speakers for the forum.
At the opening ceremony held on the 29th, various speakers including Lee Gil-Yong, Chairman of the Goyang City Council, H.E. Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Massamba Thioye, UNFCCC Sustainable Development Mechanism Program Manager, and Mark Southcombe, Associate Professor of Victoria University of Wellington delivered the congratulatory remarks.
During the subsequent keynote speech, Mayor Lee Jae-joon of Goyang City proposed citizens must work together to nurture the city with the belief that the place where we live should be the most livable and what society can do for the city where various elements like the coexistence of people and nature, resilience, and balance exist similar to an ecosystem.
